Traditionally, “Maslenitsa”, the Russian Carnival, is celebrated at the Russian Cultural Center in Washington DC. In February of 2009, this event was combined with a personal art show by Mikhail Kononov. 

The exhibition was organized by the Eurasia Center, presided by Gerard Janco and supported by the Swiss Embassy in Washington. At the opening, the guests were welcomed with music by a traditional Russian folk group and treated to delicious food based on maslenitsa recipes. 

Mikhail Kononov’s pictures were on show for more than two months. Apart from the artist’s attractive works, the visitors enjoyed additional concerts and special attractions.
